I like the balance of five – I’ve recently painted other sets of five clocks. I like the sense of rhythm they give.

This painting is part of Arden Gallery‘s group still life exhibition which runs from February 2 – 27, 2016.

The deep rich red of the clock on the far left, the way its face is turned away from the light source, and the way the clock in the centre turns slightly toward the light, illuminating its face. The subtle placement of the clocks can add just enough narrative. I think they make fantastic subjects.
