Here are two new paintings, shown on the easel, that the George Billis Gallery will have at Art Market Hamptons on the east coast, which runs from August 11–14, 2022.
The galleries keep me busy with exhibitions and several fairs throughout the year. I am already set to work for the upcoming fall fairs.
Last year I started painting film projectors after years of seeing them in vintage and antique stores. They have all the trappings of a subject I like to paint.
The reels all have these unique designs. The repeating pie shapes, the circular repetition, the repeating lines on the lamp housing.
The dials, knobs, levers, switches, gears, springs and buttons give the paintings a tactile sensation.
Putting the finishing touches on this vintage 16mm Ampro film projector. This will be for my solo exhibition at the George Billis Gallery in Los Angeles, which will feature a dozen new paintings starting on May 21, 2016.
I have a little over a month to finish up the work, so I came up for a quick breath and then I’m heading back down to focus on finishing the paintings.
I found these vintage film projectors at Everything Old Canada and thought that side by side they had a bold and interesting shape and design. I like the repetition and variation of the four circular reels.
The George Billis Gallery LA will be showing this painting in Miami, Florida at the Red Dot Fair from December 2 – 6, 2015.
